An Ultimate Guide to the Raw Materials of Wigs
March 08,2022
In our last blog, we discussed the advantages of wearing a wig and how to choose the right one for you. Today, we mainly discuss the materials of wigs and their advantages and disadvantages.
The raw materials of wigs can be basically divided into two categories: man-made fibers and human hair.
The various materials of wigs and their differences and similarities
👉Man-made chemical fiber
Man-made chemical fiber is the chemical fiber filament collectively referred to in the wig industry. It refers to the chemical fiber material synthesized by the chemical "drawing" or "blowing" process, which is a supplement to the raw materials of human hair. In the early days, the most inexpensive material was PP (that is, polypropylene chemical filament).
Synthetic chemical filaments mainly include: normal temperature silk, high temperature silk, protein silk, etc.; and can be subdivided into domestic silk, Japanese silk, Korean silk, etc. silk, matte silk.
Normal temperature silk: Normal temperature silk is generally used as a filling material in human hair products, which can effectively reduce the cost of human hair products. But the fly in the ointment is that it is easily deformed, difficult to take care of, not resistant to high temperature, and is a flammable item. It has been phased out over time.
High temperature wire: Compared with normal temperature wire, high temperature wire has a great improvement in high temperature resistance. In theory, it does not exceed 160 ℃, and high temperature wire will not be deformed. The high temperature ranges from 100°C to 160°C. In the case of controlling the temperature, it can be drawn and ironed, easy to maintain and save, and the fidelity is also greatly improved compared to normal temperature silk. Therefore, in recent years, many wig products on the market are made of high-temperature silk raw materials. Of course, it is more expensive than normal-temperature silk.
Protein silk: Compared with normal temperature silk and high temperature silk, protein silk has achieved a further level of fidelity. It is a raw material with the feel and fidelity closest to human hair so far. It is often used in the production of high-end wigs. So it will be more expensive than the first two.
In the course of continuous development, artificial synthetic filament has derived an upgraded product that is different from ordinary silk: flame retardant silk. The difference between flame-retardant yarn and ordinary chemical fiber yarn is that ordinary chemical fiber yarn is easy to burn and becomes lump after ignition, while flame-retardant yarn is not easy to burn. too high and not widely used.
👉Human hair
According to different regions, human hair can be mainly divided into: China hair, India hair, Brazil hair, Myanmar hair, Vietnam hair, Mongolia hair and so on. Because of its material, it can be ironed and dyed, and it is easy to preserve, but the output of human hair is limited, which is relatively expensive.
The main difference between human hair in various regions is the hair quality and curvature. Chinese hair, Mongolian hair, Burmese hair, and Vietnamese hair all belong to Asian hair quality, and the hair quality is relatively thick and straight. Among them, Chinese hair is the best. Chinese hair feels smooth and the price is the most expensive. Brazilian hair and Indian hair are softer in terms of hair quality and have a slightly larger curvature. They are suitable for European and American hairstyles and are mostly used for hair extensions. Among them, Brazilian hair is the best.
